Joey’s Bar Motorcycle Club [News] 26th February 2015
Joey’s Bar backs Sam Wilson in two-strokes project for Irish national road races.
The Joey’s Bar Motorcycle Club will run a new team in the 125cc and 250cc classes at the Irish national road races this year, with Cullybackey’s Sam Wilson at the helm.
The bikes, resplendent in the famous yellow and black livery that adorned roads legend Joey’s iconic Arai helmet, will be in action between the hedges for the first time at the KDM Hire Cookstown 100 in April.
The bikes are being prepared by Joey’s son Gary and the team is part-funded by Joey’s Bar MCC.
Dunlop said: “Our small club, Joey’s Bar, have been going for the past three years. We have been supporting some local riders and last year, we put up a cup and a cash prize at Armoy.
“I’ve been building the wee ‘one-two-five’ over the past few years, but it was William [Dunlop] who really pushed me into getting the bike on track, to try and keep the two-stroke bikes on the grid.
“As I had a ‘two-fifty’ project in the pipeline as well, it didn’t take long for us to put an agreement in place with Sam.”
Dunlop was keen to thank the general public, who made donations through PayPal, and the team’s additional sponsors.
“It’s going to be great to be back involved in bikes,” he enthused. “I’m really looking forward to it with a small team, where we can enjoy the craic just the way my dad did.”
