Guy Martin's Wall of Death: Rider sets new world record live on Channel 4GUY Martin set a new world record on the terrifying Wall of Death live on Channel 4 tonight (Monday, March 28). In tonight's show presented by Steve Jones, the Kirmington rider managed a Guinness world record of 78.150mph on the wall. The minimum requirement was for Guy to beat 60mph and he managed 60.1mph on his first attempt, going on to reach over 70, then finally 78. Speaking after, Guy said: "You are a racer, you always want more." The daring attempt took place in a hangar in Lincolnshire. Before Guy took to the giant wall, the programme showed his journey from his training under the guidance of Britain's finest Wall of Death rider Ken Fox. We were also shown the science behind the bike sticking to the vertical wall from Cambridge University professor Dr Hugh Hunt, as well as experiencing the massive G forces Guy had to contend with in a stunt plane with ex-fighter pilot Mark Greenfield. Speaking before the attempt, Guy described it as "the best idea that anyone has come up with...ever". "When you see it with your own eyes...mental. I am the luckiest man alive. Toughest thing I've ever done," Guy said. When asked why he wanted to do the Wall of Death, Guy said: "It's a challenge and it has never been done." During the show, Guy was joined by his family, friends and Formula 1 ace David Coulthard. After the attempt, his mum Rita said it was "terrifying" to watch. During the show, female rider Shanaze Reade managed to break a world record on a bicycle on a Wall of Death with 26mph - one mile above the previous record. Courtesy of scunthorpetelegraph.co.uk
